We Teach Faithfully
“In the essentials unity, in the non-essentials diversity, in all things charity.” ~ St. Augustine

What We Teach
The Gathering Place is ultimately a Bible church. Everything we teach has its foundation rooted in the scriptures.
We believe that the Bible was written by divinely inspired men under the guidance of the Holy Spirit. It is infallible, inerrant, and the final authority for Christian beliefs and living.
Deut 4:1-2 • Psalm 19:7-10 • 2 Tim 3:15-17 • Heb 1:1-2
We believe in one true and living God, who eternally exists as three distinct persons: the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. Each person is fully and equally God, sharing the same divine essence, power, and glory, yet distinguished by personal relations and roles within the Godhead. This Triune God is not divided in being or purpose, but perfectly united in will and work, accomplishing redemption according to His eternal counsel.
Deuteronomy 6:4 • Matthew 3:16–17 • Matthew 28:18–20 • John 1:1–3 • John 14:16–17 • John 15:26 • 2 Corinthians 13:14 • Ephesians 1:3–14 • Hebrews 1:1–3
We believe in God the Father, the first person of the Trinity, who is eternal, uncreated, and sovereign over all things. He is the source and sustainer of creation, governing all things according to the counsel of His will for His own glory and the good of His people. The Father is holy, righteous, and just, yet also loving, gracious, and merciful. From eternity, He purposes redemption, sends the Son for the salvation of sinners, and adopts believers as His children through grace. He hears the prayers of His people, provides for their needs, disciplines them in love, and faithfully brings all His promises to fulfillment.
Isaiah 64:8 • Matthew 6:9–13 • John 5:19–23 • Romans 8:14–17 • Ephesians 1:3–11 • James 1:17 • 1 Peter 1:3–5 • Hebrews 12:5–11 • Revelation 4:11
We believe in Jesus Christ, the eternal Son of God, who is truly God and truly man, one person in two natures, without confusion, change, division, or separation. He was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the virgin Mary, and lived a sinless life in perfect obedience to the Father. In accordance with the Scriptures, Jesus willingly laid down His life as a substitutionary sacrifice for sinners, bearing God’s just wrath on the cross and accomplishing redemption for His people. He rose bodily from the dead on the third day, ascended into heaven, and now reigns at the right hand of the Father as Prophet, Priest, and King, continually interceding for His church. Jesus Christ is the only mediator between God and humanity, and through repentance and faith in Him alone, sinners are forgiven, justified, and reconciled to God. He will return personally and visibly in glory to judge the living and the dead and to bring His redemptive work to its final and eternal fulfillment.
John 1:1–14 • Colossians 1:15–20 • Philippians 2:5–11 • Hebrews 1:1–4 • Hebrews 4:14–15 • Isaiah 53:4–12 • Romans 5:8–11 • 1 Corinthians 15:3–8 • Acts 1:9–11 • 1 Timothy 2:5 • Hebrews 7:24–27 • Revelation 5:9–14
We believe in the Holy Spirit, the third person of the Trinity, who is fully and eternally God, equal in essence, power, and glory with the Father and the Son. The Holy Spirit proceeds from the Father and the Son and is actively present in the world to glorify Christ and accomplish the will of God. The Spirit convicts the world of sin, righteousness, and judgment, and sovereignly regenerates sinners, granting new life and faith in Jesus Christ. He indwells every believer, uniting them to Christ, assuring them of adoption, and empowering them for holy living, obedience, and witness. The Holy Spirit sanctifies the people of God, producing spiritual fruit, distributing spiritual gifts according to His will, and preserving believers in faith until the day of redemption.
John 14:16–17 • John 15:26 • John 16:7–15 • Romans 8:9–16 • 1 Corinthians 12:4–11 • Galatians 5:16–25 • Titus 3:4–7 • Ephesians 1:13–14 • Ephesians 4:30
We believe that humanity was created by God in His image, male and female, with dignity, value, and purpose, to know Him, reflect His character, and steward His creation. Though created good, humanity fell into sin through disobedience, resulting in corruption of nature and separation from God, affecting every aspect of human life. As a result, all people are born sinful and morally unable to restore themselves to right relationship with God apart from His grace. Yet every human life retains inherent worth as God’s image-bearer, and God, in mercy, calls people from every tribe, nation, and generation to repentance and faith in Jesus Christ. Through redemption in Christ, humanity is being renewed and restored, ultimately to be perfected in the resurrection and the life to come.
Genesis 1:26–28 • Genesis 2:15–17 • Psalm 8:3–8 • Ecclesiastes 7:29 • Romans 3:9–23 • Romans 5:12–19 • Ephesians 2:1–3 • Colossians 3:9–11 • 1 Corinthians 15:42–49
We believe that sin is any failure to conform to the moral law of God in heart, word, or action. Sin entered the world through Adam’s disobedience and has corrupted every aspect of human nature, leaving all people guilty before God and unable to restore themselves to righteousness apart from His grace. Sin separates humanity from God, distorts His good design, and justly brings His holy judgment. Yet God, being rich in mercy, calls sinners to repentance and provides forgiveness and restoration through Jesus Christ. By grace, sin is pardoned, its dominion is broken, and believers are progressively freed from its power as they are conformed to the image of Christ.
Genesis 3:1–19 • Psalm 51:1–5 • Isaiah 53:6 • Romans 3:9–20 • Romans 5:12–19 • Romans 6:6–14 • Ephesians 2:1–3 • James 4:17 • 1 John 1:8–10 • 1 John 3:4
We believe salvation is the gracious work of God, freely given to all who repent and believe the gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ. Repentance and faith are gifts of God’s grace, through which sinners are turned from sin and rest in Christ alone. Salvation begins with regeneration, as God sovereignly gives new life to those who are spiritually dead, enabling them to respond in faith. God justifies sinners by grace alone through faith alone on the basis of Christ’s sinless life, atoning death, and victorious resurrection. On the cross, Christ bore the just condemnation of sinners, and His righteousness is imputed to believers, bringing them into peace and favor with God. Those whom God justifies, He also sanctifies, progressively conforming them to Christ by the indwelling Holy Spirit. Those whom God saves, He preserves by His power, sealing them by the Spirit according to His eternal covenant. The final result of salvation is glorification which is eternal life with God in the new heavens and the new earth, to the praise of His glory.
Gen 3:15 • Exodus 3:14-17 • Matt 16:21-26 • Luke 1:68-69 • John 5:40 • Acts 2:36-37 • Eph 1:7, 2:8-22, 4:11-16 • Phil 2:12-13; Col 1:9-22 • Titus 2:11-14 • Heb 2:1-3, 9:24-28
We believe that all followers of Jesus Christ are called to gather as a local, covenanted body of baptized believers, gathering regularly under the faithful preaching of God’s Word. In this assembly, the church observes the ordinances instituted by Christ, submits to the authority of Scripture, practices mutual accountability, and labors together to carry out the mission Christ has entrusted to His church. The only offices appointed by Scripture for the governance and care of the church are pastors (also referred to as elders or overseers) and deacons, each serving according to the qualifications set forth in God’s Word. All other roles and positions may be used in wisdom to help advance the work of the ministry but may not be expressly instituted by God.
Matt 16:15-19 • Acts 2:41-47, 5:11-14 • 1 Tim 2:9-14, 3:1-15
We recognize two main ordinances: baptism and communion. We believe that Christian baptism is the immersion of a believer in water in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, signifying union with Christ in His death and resurrection and the believer’s reception of new life in Him. Baptism is a public testimony of faith and obedience, marking one’s entrance into the visible church. It is not in and of itself salvific, but is an act of obedience as a result of salvation. We believe that communion is a memorial ordinance instituted by Christ, in which believers partake of bread and the cup as visible signs of His body broken and His blood shed for the atonement of sins. This ordinance serves to nourish faith, proclaim the Lord’s death, and encourage the church as it awaits His return. We believe and uphold that in each ordinance the real presence of christ is made manifest as we partake in them.
We believe that God created humanity in His image as male and female, and that sex, gender, and sexuality are gifts ordered by His good and wise design. God has ordained marriage as a covenantal union between one man and one woman, in which sexual intimacy is to be expressed faithfully and joyfully. Any sexual expression outside of this covenant falls outside God’s revealed will and results in harm to individuals and communities. This includes adultery, fornication, homosexuality, transgenderism, and all forms of sexual immorality and other LGBTQ+ related attractions.
Genesis 1:26–28 • Genesis 2:18–25 • Matthew 19:4–6 • Romans 1:18–27 • 1 Corinthians 6:9–11 • Ephesians 5:22–33 • 1 Thessalonians 4:3–7 • Hebrews 13:4 • Colossians 3:5–10
We believe that marriage is a sacred covenant instituted by God, designed to unite one man and one woman in a lifelong, exclusive relationship. Established at creation, marriage reflects God’s good design for companionship, faithfulness, and fruitfulness, and serves as a living picture of the covenantal love between Christ and His church. Within marriage, husband and wife are called to love, honor, and serve one another with humility, fidelity, and self-giving commitment. Marriage is to be marked by mutual respect, sacrificial love, and steadfast perseverance, for the glory of God and the good of those within the covenant.
Genesis 2:18–25 • Matthew 19:4–6 • Ephesians 5:22–33 • Hebrews 13:4 • Proverbs 18:22 • Malachi 2:14–16 • 1 Corinthians 7:1–9 • Colossians 3:18–19 • Revelation 19:6–9
We believe men and women are created equally in the image of God and are gifted by the Holy Spirit for the building up of the Church. Both men and women are encouraged to lead, teach, serve, and exercise their gifts in every area of ministry. In keeping with our convictions regarding biblical church governance, the offices of Elder and Lead Pastor are reserved for qualified men, while all other leadership roles and ministry positions are open to women. We affirm the indispensable role of women in the life, mission, and leadership of the Church and joyfully celebrate their calling and contribution.
Genesis 1:26–28 • Joel 2:28–29 • Acts 2:17–18 • Romans 12:4–8 • 1 Corinthians 12:4–7 • Galatians 3:26–28 • Titus 2:3–5 • 1 Timothy 2:11–14 • 1 Timothy 3:1–7 • 1 Corinthians 11:5 • Philippians 4:2–3 • Romans 16:1–6
We take seriously the call to maintain sound theology and to lead our people in streams of trustworthiness that cultivate deeper spiritual formation. For this reason, we exercise discernment in the worship music we use and may refrain from certain artists or bands whose theology we believe is less than God-honoring, though individual songs may be used on a case-by-case basis. Our worship gatherings primarily blend modern worship music with psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs. Our aim is to stir our affections for the Lord, prepare our hearts to receive His Word, and respond with gratitude for His self-revelation.
Acts 20:27–30 • Romans 12:1–2 • Ephesians 4:11–15 • Colossians 3:16 • 1 Timothy 4:6–7 • 2 Timothy 1:13–14 • 2 Timothy 3:16–17 • Jude 1:3
We believe that prayer is a gracious gift of God and a vital means of communion with Him, through which believers draw near with reverence and confidence. Through prayer, offered in the name of Jesus Christ and empowered by the Holy Spirit, God’s people confess sin, give thanks, intercede for others, and make their requests known to God, trusting His sovereign will and fatherly care. Prayer does not change God’s purposes but is ordained by Him as a means through which He accomplishes His will and strengthens the faith of His people.
Matthew 6:9–13 • John 14:13–14 • Romans 8:26–27 • Ephesians 6:18 • Philippians 4:6–7 • Hebrews 4:14–16 • 1 John 5:14–15
We believe that giving is an act of worship and joyful obedience, flowing from hearts transformed by the grace of God. Through tithes and offerings, God’s people respond with gratitude for all He has provided, acknowledging that everything belongs to Him. Giving is not a means of earning God’s favor, but a tangible expression of faith, stewardship, and love for the work of the gospel. God calls His people to give willingly, sacrificially, and cheerfully, trusting Him to supply every need and to use their generosity for His glory and the good of His church and the world.
Malachi 3:8–10 • Proverbs 3:9–10 • Matthew 6:19–21 • Luke 21:1–4 • 1 Corinthians 16:1–2 • 2 Corinthians 8:1–7 • 2 Corinthians 9:6–8 • Philippians 4:15–19
We believe that the Holy Spirit sovereignly distributes spiritual gifts to believers for the building up of the Church and the fulfillment of God’s mission. These gifts are grounded in God’s grace, governed by Scripture, and exercised under the Lordship of Christ for the edification of the body in love and good order. We affirm the sufficiency and final authority of Scripture and understand all spiritual gifts are to be subordinate to God’s revealed Word. We do remain open to the ongoing work of the Holy Spirit, including gifts such as tongues, prophecy, and healing. At the same time, we practice careful discernment, pastoral oversight, and biblical testing of these gifts, ensuring they are exercised in ways that are theologically sound, pastorally wise, and oriented toward the strengthening of faith rather than confusion or excess. All expressions of the Spirit’s gifts within the life of the church are to promote unity, humility, and maturity in Christ and are to be practiced in submission to the leadership and governance of the local church and for the glory of God.
1 Corinthians 12:4–7 • 1 Corinthians 14:26, 40 • 2 Timothy 3:16–17 • 1 Thessalonians 5:19–21 • 1 Corinthians 14:1–5 • Ephesians 4:11–16
We believe that God is presently advancing His kingdom in History through the reign of Jesus Christ and the power of the gospel, bringing all nations under His gracious rule according to His sovereign purpose. As the gospel bears increasing fruit in the world, Christ will bring History to its appointed fulfillment and return personally and visibly to consummate His victory. At His return, He will judge all humanity, finally defeat all evil, and usher His people into the fullness of life in the everlasting kingdom of God.
